Joe, you make an interesting argument for calling out "poor" pilots. I'm willing to bet we hesitate to do this because we probably wouldn't enjoy getting our skills/judgements second guessed by someone else. (Say onto others...) I take safety very seriously and I'm a pretty conservative pilot, but I'm sure someone else critiquing me may have a different opinion on my decisions. I feel I'm doing the absolute safest thing I can do, and I'll bet those dead pilots probably feel the same way about their decisions.

Maybe it's who's giving me the unsolicited advice. If it's some yahoo on the radio "correcting" my pattern calls, (or the like) then, I'll likely dismiss the "advice". If it's from someone I respect, then yeah, I'd be open to criticism/advice.

Maybe that's the key... if it's someone you know it would do us all good to ask first if they are open to critique/our observations, and then offer our advice. In fact, that's exactly what I did, now that I think about it, with a pilot friend the other day. I asked if she was open to advice. She was, and I gave her my observations.

Thanks so much for the encouragement and the support, Joe! That's, so far, the best part of this air race- the chance to make connections with others, to draw from your enthusiasm. We're so excited to be doing this-- it's truly, for both Linda and me, a decades-long dream about to come true. We're so very glad to have you along for the virtual trip!

One would think that having one's private parts explored via tactile examination without just cause would, by definition, be unreasonable.

I have heard that there is no right not to be searched without a warrant, as long as the search is "reasonable."

"Amendment IV

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Notice that it doesn't actually say that there has to be a warrant, only that the search can't be unreasonable. Of course, that word "unreasonable" is subject to a lot of interpretation, so the courts have spent a lot of time determining when warrants are required and when they are not.
