An inquiry made on the forums of a popular GA site as to a good place to stop on a trip from Upstate NY to Roanoke, VA turned up the Jean Bonnet Tavern, which has its roots tracing back to 1762. So we looked it up.
We found their website, www.jeanbonnettavern.com and it intrigued us, though our almost-nine year old daughter insists she is not at a point in her life where connecting with spirits is a priority. Tough!
Here’s the sunny view.

Folklore has it that it’s haunted…but what really haunts me today is the menu…it’s just a really good menu!
This picture looks pretty legitimate, I think:

The ghost is seated in the chair on the bottom right.
The Jean Bonnet Tavern is a tavern, restaurant and Bed & Breakfast with rooms as low as $100/night. It’s about 6 miles from the Bedford County Airport (KHMZ), which makes it a great place for lunch, dinner, or an overnight.
But they do more than offer a place to sleep, eat or down a pint. The owners have made it a priority to help others who are less fortunate. By participating in the “Restaurant Olympics”, the folks from the Jean Bonnet Tavern raise money for the Special Olympics.

We’re headed that way in November. We’ll report back if we have a haunting experience!

The Victorian Lace Inn is in the beautiful vacation town of Cape May, New Jersey. Located at the southern tip of the state, the communities of Cape May and Cape May Point together offer plenty for a couple or family. But, a vacation is a place to relax and unwind.

The Victorian Lace Inn
In 2000, we chose to stay at the Victorian Lace Inn, and we loved it because it was, of course, a wonderful place to stay, but also it was just a block from the beach. A little block. So getting back and forth to the beach (our favorite thing to do) was easy.
I recall on Sunday, we had breakfast on the huge front porch. Because we have kids, we reserved a condo that had a complete kitchen, which made it actually quite an ecomonical vacation for us, since we didn’t need to eat at a restaurant every meal.
How did we find the place? Well, long before we decided where to go, my wife got on the computer and started searching for “beach” and “bed and breakfast”, and after seeing the Victorian Lace Inn, she was hooked.

Full Kitchen in the Condos
We admit, we didn’t stay in the Inn much each day. Usually out of there by 10 am and on the beach for a couple hours. Then, back long enough to rinse off and change and then find some lunch, and usually back out to the beach after 2.
Last time we drove and it took us about 10 hours to get there. The last 30 miles, quite frankly, is pretty slow going. It goes through some beautiful country, but it’s 2 lanes and on weekends, it can be bumper to bumper for quite a while.
This year, we’re flying in. Cape May County airport (KWWD) is just 6 or 7 miles from town, so it’s actually quite convenient. The airport is GA friendly, and is home to the Naval Air Station Wildwood Museum, which is a not for profit organization that has put together quite a display.

KWWD is very close to town.
We’re going back this summer. We’ve like the suites. My wife is looking forward to spending a few hours relaxing in their spa, which is a new additions since we were there last. Our kids are looking forward to spending a few days on the beach.
We can’t wait. We’ve already made our reservations.
